Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It was the first university in China to be founded by an overseas Chinese. The university is located in southeast China, lying between wooded hills and the sea, and well known for it garden-like campus in China. Xiamen University is a top national comprehensive university recognized as “Strength of the South” and enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide.

Xiamen University provides a complete range of academic programmes, each with its own distinctive features. Doctoral degrees are offered in 119 programmes, masters degrees in 213, and bachelors degrees in 86. Currently there are over 38,000 students. Xiamen University has highly qualified staff, including a total of over 2300 academic staff.

In recent years, Xiamen University has been pushing forward its internationalization process. It has inter-university cooperative ties with over 150 institutions of higher education at home and abroad. Xiamen University has formally established multi-lateral cooperative relationship with other world-renown universities by signing the Agreement on Global U7 Consortium in 2004, and has collaborated with world-renown universities in the construction of 12 Confucius Institutes.

Xiamen University was one of first institutions to develop overseas education, with the foundation of overseas correspondence education in the 1950s. In all, the University has welcomed over 30,000 overseas students from more than 100 countries.

Bilingual Chinese-English Medium Undergraduate Programmes

Xiamen University offers the brand-new Bilingual Chinese-English-medium Undergraduate Programmes which is an important act to promote the internationalization of Xiamen University. All the programmes are key advantageous disciplines. Outstanding teaching staff will be mobilized to cultivate distinguished international talents from home and broad.

Tuition fee: 26000RMB/academic year

Application time: from Feb 15- June 15 2010

Entry Requirements:

1.       International students with the completion of a high school diploma and the average transcripts B or above (over 70%).

2.       Applicants should be good at English and Chinese language.

l         English: 80 points or above for TOEFL, a grade 6.0 or above for IELTS, or other certificate of English proficiency from an approved test. Native English speakers and candidates whose high school courses are taught in English are exempt from this requirement.

l         Chinese: Applicants for Economics and Accounting programmes should get the HSK Certificate of fifth level or above; Applicants for sciences should get HSK Certificate of third level or above.

International Postgraduate Programmes (All courses are taught in English)

To further promote internationalization of Xiamen University, we have launched 10 international postgraduate programmes for distinguish international students in seven colleges and institutes. All courses under the programmes are taught in English and are aimed at cultivating high-level international professional talents with excellent expertise and knowledge of Chinese society and culture.

Length of Programme: 2 years full-time

Tuition fee: 72000RMB in total for each programme (Programme of Chinese Culture: 60000RMB in total)

Application time: from Feb 15- April 30 2010

Credits requirements: A total 26 to 32 credits are required for graduation:

ü         2 compulsory courses — 4 credits

ü         4 core courses giving 3 credits each 12 credits

ü         4-6 elective courses of 2 credits each 8 -12 credits

ü         Research or other appropriate activity 2 credits

Entry Requirements:

• Academic requirements: Prospective students should have a bachelors degree or above, or equivalent.

• Professional backgrounds: applicants with relevant professional experience or other qualifications deemed appropriate to the programme applied for may also be considered.

• English proficiency: TOEFL or IELTS—minimum requirements is 80 points or above for TOEFL, and a grade 6.0 or above for IELTS, or other certificate of English proficiency from an approved test. Native English speakers and candidates whose University courses are taught in English are exempt from this requirement.
