CSC expands Canadian Education Partnership and Training Market

    May 21, 2004, China Scholarship Council (CSC) of Ministry of Education and Canada International Management Institute (CIMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding entitled "Sino-Canada Education Cooperation and Human Resources Training Project". Madam Zhang Xiuqin, Deputy Director General of Department of Intl Cooperation, Ministry of Education, Mr. Li Wangrong, Secretary General of CSC, Madam Anita Lau, Chairman of Canada International Management Institute, Mr.Michael Martin, Minister (Commercial) of the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, and various representatives of the Canada-China Business Council attended the signing ceremony at the Ministry of Education in Beijing.

Canada International Management Institute (CIMI) is a Canadian private post secondary institution registered under the Private Post Secondary Education Commission of British Columbia, representing more than Ten Canadian Universities and colleges. Its core business is to provide pre-university foundation and/or transfer credit programs for students who have been conditionally admitted to Canada universities, and further, it establishes joint education programs with Chinese universities in China. CIMI also provides follow up services to students including obtaining visa and settling down at university in Canada.

Through the co-operation between CSC and CIMI, Chinese citizens could receive quantity and quality services in their pursuit of Canadian education. Both parties plan to develop strategic action plan to facilitate those self-supporting students studying in Canada, foster Sino-Canada joint education project, practical training of executive and senior management, providing training to educational administrators and private enterprise managers.

CSC and CIMI will establish an "Office of Sino-Canada Education Cooperation and Training Project". In the near future they will unveil a series of joint education projects. Among these, the establishment of a Pre-University Foundation Project by introducing the high quality Canadian education model which is managed by the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC), comprised of Deans or representatives of participating Canadian Universities. According to the Canadian model, it will deliver the first part of the teaching in China. Students will be conditionally admitted to Canadian universities at the beginning of their program. Students successfully completed the program in China may be transferred to their Canadian universities previously admitted. Upon completion of the last part of the program, they will receive Canadian degrees. This is a model greatly enhance those who desire to study in Canada a much better choice in terms of quality learning and cost saving.

The co-operation between CSC and CIMI signify an important and positive development in providing a better managed channel for students wanting to study in Canada.
