Founded in 1901, Shandong University is a key comprehensive university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of the oldest renowned universities throughout the country and one of the high-ranking universities whose development are given priority by the state. Shandong University is now made up of 30 colleges, 3 affiliated hospitals, 12 internship hospitals and a Graduate School. Shandong University provides programs for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The above programs cover 10 fields of study, namely, literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, medicine, and pedagogy. Shandong University now has 25 first-level and 188 second level doctoral degree conferring programs; 15 postdoctoral research programs; 267 master’s degree granting programs and 7 professional degree granting programs: law (master’s), business management (master’s), public management (master’s), engineering (master’s), clinical medicine (master’s and doctoral), Public health (masters); and 112 bachelor’s degree programs. Currently, the number of undergraduate students has surpassed 40,000 and postgraduate students 10,000.
Shandong University has established an extensive transnational relationship in academic exchanges and cooperation. Shandong University was one of the first Chinese universities accepting international students and offering Chinese courses to them. Since 1980, the university has accepted more than 6000 international students from over 60 countries, and currently, it has around 2,000 regular international students.
School of Economics Shandong University
School of Economics Shandong University consists of Department of Economics, Department of Finance, Department of Public Finance, Department of International Economics and Trade, Department of Risk Management and Insurance, and Institute of Consumption and Development (Industrial Economics). The School offers an integrated range of professional and educational programs including 4 doctoral programs (Industrial Economics, Public Finance, National Economics and Political Economics), 11 master programs (Industrial Economics, Public Finance, National Economics, Political Economics, Western Economics, Finance, International Trade, World Economics, Labor Economics, Regional Economics and Quantitative Economics) and 6 undergraduate programs (Economics, Public Finance, Finance, International Economics and Trade, Insurance, Finance Mathematics and Finance Engineering). And there is also an Applied Economics Post-Doc Research Station included.
Ø Aim of Training: Student will have solid background in international trade theory; master the rules and transaction of international business, own broad view on it. Student will theoretically study the development of China’s international economics and trade, which will assistant them in their future cooperation with Chinese counterparts.

Ø Other Fees and charges:
Application Fee: 410 Chinese Yuan per student
Accommodation Fee: 40—75 Yuan per day per room
Insurance fee: 600 Chinese Yuan per year per student (the
University assumes 400 Chinese Yuan and student 200 Chinese Yuan)
The daily meal expense is about 10-20 Yuan for dining at the students’ dining hall.
An alternative is to cook by your in the neat and convenient public kitchen.
Ø Application
1. Materials to be submitted:
a) Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China
b) The copy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners
c) Passport copy
d) Application statement (about 800 words, including the majors and research field you apply for)
e) Graduation diploma and degree
f) Two recommendation letters from associate professors or above
2. Application Procedure
a) Submit your application materials to the College of International Education of Shandong University by post, fax or email.
b) Shandong University accepts the application materials
c) Examination of the application materials
d) Shandong University will, in accordance with the principle of competitive selection, enroll students and send them an Admission Notice of Shandong University and Visa Application Form for Foreigners Who Want to Study in China
e) Apply for visa of X or F type at the local embassy or consulate of the People’s Republic of China with
the Admission Notice, the Visa application Form for Foreigners Who Want to Study in China, and the original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners.
3. Registration Procedure
Arrive at Shandong University at the time stated in the Admission Notice with visa of X or F type.

College of International Education Shandong University
The history of admission and cultivation of international students at Shandong University can be traced back to the 1950s. Shandong University was one of the first Chinese universities accepting international students and offering Chinese courses to them. It has been one of the major universities in China engaging in international students’ education since the 1980s. It has been designated by China’s Ministry of Education as “a key university supporting the Chinese language teaching in neighboring countries”, and was among the first universities in China to have established overseas Confucius Institute.
In 1994, the College of International Education of Shandong University was established. It is a comprehensive educational institution mainly responsible for the admission, teaching, management of and service for the international students. The college also enrolls domestic students for studies in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics for master’s degree, and students for studies in Education (second language teaching) for dual bachelor’s degree. With many talented and experienced teachers and fine teaching facilities, it also undertakes such programs as training Chinese language teachers for overseas schools and institutions. In addition, Shandong University is designated by the state to be a center for HSK (Chinese proficiency test) and for “Teaching Competence Test for Chinese as a Foreign Language”.
